In 2024, the region's five hydroelectric generating stations produced a total of 13.75 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity for Ontario or enough to power close to 1 million homes for a whole year.
This outstanding performance set a new all-time high for the region, eclipsing the previous record set in 1979 by 0.17 TWh, and helped meet Ontario's growing demand for electricity.
OPG's Niagara Operations encompass five hydro generating facilities, including the Sir Adam Beck I and II GS, Sir Adam Beck Pump GS, and DeCew I and II GS. Each year, these plants meet about 10% of Ontario's energy needs.

Leading the pack were OPG's flagship Beck stations, which tallied an impressive 13.0 TWh to beat a station-specific record, also set back in 1979.
Beyond the generation numbers, OPG's Niagara employees set these impressive new highs while surpassing 2024 targets for both work protection and health and safety performance.
And to top it off, both reliability and project performance for the Niagara fleet also exceeded targets set for the year.
Combined, all of these factors contributed to Niagara's banner year as well as OPG's largest overall hydroelectric output in 15 years.
In the coming years, OPG's Niagara stations, as well as its hydro facilities across the province, will be integral to supporting Ontario's electrification and economic growth with low-carbon, affordable, and reliable power.
The company is now investing billions of dollars to refurbish generating units across its hydro fleet to ensure many more decades of reliable generation.
