This week, the UK's first geothermal power plant was officially turned on in what is a major advancement for the growing renewable energy sector.
The Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) plant, located in Cornwall, England, will provide reliable electricity and heat to homes and businesses, harnessing the natural heat stored in deep granite beneath the United Downs Industrial Site.
It also highlights the potential for lithium production from geothermal fluids, supporting innovative domestic supply chains.
Commenting on the news, CEO of the UK National Geothermal Centre, Charlotte Adams, said: "The switch-on of the United Downs Deep Geothermal Power plant is a landmark moment for the UK. It demonstrates that Britain can lead in geothermal innovation and harness the potential beneath our feet.
