MARINE RENEWABLES CANADA
Marine Renewables Canada and Nergica Join Forces to Drive Marine Renewable Energy Innovation in Canada

March 12, 2024

Marine Renewables Canada (MRC) and Nergica are pleased to announce a strategic partnership aimed at fostering innovation and bolstering the growth of the marine renewable energy sector throughout Canada. With ambitious carbon reduction targets, substantial investments in renewable energy, as well as the longest coastlines and highest tides globally, Canada is well positioned to emerge as a frontrunner in this rapidly growing industry.

By leveraging MRC's role as Canada's national association for tidal, offshore wind, wave, and river current energy and Nergica's expertise in applied research within the country's renewable energy industry, these organizations aim to work collaboratively to drive innovation and advance the development of marine renewable energy solutions.

"This partnership between Marine Renewables Canada and Nergica represents an important step in our collective efforts to advance marine renewable energy in Canada", said Elisa Obermann, Executive Director of MRC. "By joining forces, we can leverage our respective strengths to drive growth for the industry and help create a more sustainable future, powered by the Blue Economy."

The agreement centres around the exchange of knowledge, facilitation of networking, exchange of best practices, shared and cross promotion, and continuous relationship development. Combining MRC's extensive industry network and sector leadership with Nergica's unrivaled expertise in optimizing renewable energy production and applied research capabilities, creates a powerful synergy. By working together, these organizations aim to accelerate the adoption of marine renewable energy technologies, drive innovation, and broaden the range of services available to companies and communities engaged in the marine renewable energy sector.

"Research and innovation play a crucial role in achieving our goal of making Canada carbon neutral by 2050", said Frédéric Côté, General Manager of Nergica. "Nergica is proud to collaborate with Marine Renewables Canada to foster the development of innovative offshore wind projects. This partnership will allow us to combine our strengths to accelerate the development and adoption of renewable energies, such as offshore wind in Canada."

About Marine Renewables Canada

Marine Renewables Canada is the national association for tidal, offshore wind, wave and river current energy, representing a membership of technology and project developers, suppliers, utilities, Indigenous organizations, researchers, and communities. Since 2004, the association has worked to build the sector by advocating for supportive policies, identifying domestic and international business development opportunities for its members, facilitating collaboration amongst its membership and broader ecosystem, providing education and outreach, and disseminating market intelligence. As part of its focus on developing the sector, Marine Renewables Canada is active in catalyzing opportunities for how marine renewable energy can contribute to achieving decarbonization goals through the production of green fuels such as hydrogen, as well as displacement of diesel in remote communities and marine industries.
