Borusan EnBW Enerji commissions 138 Megawatt Saros wind farm
Joint venture now has a total renewable generation capacity of around 720 megawatts

August 19, 2022

The German-Turkish joint venture Borusan EnBW Enerji, in which the partners EnBW and Borusan each have a half share, has fully commissioned the onshore wind farm Saros - with a capacity of 138 MW one of the largest wind farms in Turkey.

After approximately over a year of construction, the commissioning of 27 GE Cypress turbines completed the full commissioning in June 2022. With the addition of 138 MW, the wind farm will meet the energy needs of 200,000 households annually, thus contributing to the reduction of 267,000 tonnes of CO on a calculated basis.

Borusan EnBW Enerji, based in Istanbul, was founded in summer 2009 as a joint venture between EnBW and the Turkish company Borusan. The aim of the joint venture is to build up generation capacities in the field of renewable energies in Turkey. With the expansion that has taken place, EnBW and Borusan now have generation plants with a capacity of around 720 megawatts in operation in Turkey, including mainly onshore wind plants, but also a hydroelectric power plant and two solar parks. The joint venture operates wind farms with a total capacity of 666 MW, making it one of the leading companies in the Turkish onshore wind power market.
