Plans for the second phase of Djibouti Geothermal Energy Development Authority training on course

Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is preparing to facilitate the second phase of the Djibouti Geothermal Energy Development Authority (ODDEG) training which is expected to kick-off before the end of the year.

Through the Africa Geothermal Centre of Excellence - Interim Project Coordinating Unit (AGCE-IPCU), GDC has received a request to train twenty-two (22) Djibouti staff for twenty-nine (29) days in different specialized disciplines.

These include; Directional Drilling, Mud and Cementing, Drilling Management Maintenance and Drilling Machine, Pressure Temperature Spinner (PTS) Logging, Health Safety and Environment (HSE), Warehouse Management, Geochemistry, Geophysics, and Rig Logistics. The tailor-made courses will strengthen and enhance the capacities and skills of trainees as per their needs and requirements in the different disciplines through on-the-job-training.

Geothermal Development Company's geothermal projects will serve as rich learning grounds. The specialized courses will focus on theoretical and practical aspects in the field and project work.

Geothermal Centre of Excellence Ag. Principal Officer Dr. Robert Ogutu expressed optimism about the upcoming training. "The last training was very successful," noted Dr. Ogutu. At GDC's Center of Excellence, we are excited about the upcoming training. It will take place at GDC's training facility in Nakuru Polo Centre and at the Menengai Geothermal Project," he added.

Geothermal Center of Excellence (GCE) has so far trained more than 50 trainees from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Uganda, and The University of Dar e Salaam. The trainings took place between the year 2018 to 2019 at Polo Centre, Menengai, and Baringo-Silali fields.
