ABENGOA
Abengoa qualifies as a leading company in climate action

April 12, 2021

Highlights

  • Abengoa has obtained an A- rating in the Carbon Disclosure Project's (CDP) Supplier Engagement Rating (SER), which measures the degree to which organizations engage their suppliers in the fight against climate change.

Abengoa, an international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, has been awarded an A- rating in the Carbon Disclosure Project's (CDP) Supplier Engagement Rating (SER). This rating, together with the score obtained in its climate change questionnaire, places the company among the world leaders in climate action.

The rating obtained by Abengoa places it above the European average and the business sector to which it belongs (B- in both cases). This consolidates Abengoa as a leading company in the fight against climate change and its effects, for the technological solutions it makes available to its customers, for the way it manages its activities and for the transmission of its commitment to the value chain.

Specifically, Abengoa has been positively assessed for its transparency in climate action around its value chain, knowledge of its impact on climate change and recognition of the need for coordinated action to achieve the mitigation targets demanded by the Paris Agreement on climate change, among other criteria.

The CDP SER is a rating that measures the effectiveness with which organizations are engaging their suppliers in the fight against climate change. The rating analyzes aspects related to governance, target setting, value chain greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting (Scope 3) and supplier engagement strategies.

An organization's average value chain GHG emissions are approximately 11.4 times greater than its direct operations. Because of this, companies have a much greater potential to reduce global emissions if they act on their supply chains.

Its more than 12 years of experience in accounting for these emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change, as well as the transmitting effect it has had on the actors in its value chain, have served to position it among the leading companies in this ranking. In these years, Abengoa has achieved important milestones such as the development of a computer tool for the management of GHG emissions, the establishment of a procedure for the identification and management of risks associated with climate change, the implementation of a strategy for calculating the internal price of carbon, and an accumulated reduction of more than two and a half million tons of CO2.
