Public Service Electric & Gas: Bringing Clean Solar Energy to All

November 10, 2015

Recently, PSE&G marked the half-way point of constructing our largest, grid-connected community solar farm to date, on the closed L&D landfill in Burlington County, New Jersey.

When completed, this new community solar farm will provide enough clean energy to power 2,000 homes a year.

The L&D solar farm is PSE&G's 27th grid-connected centralized solar project and the eighth to be built on landfills or former industrial properties known as "brownfields." Including this latest project, these efforts will have reclaimed more than 150 acres on which over 140,000 solar panels have been installed with the capability to power about 7,500 homes annually.

By building community solar projects like the L&D solar farm and connecting them directly to the electric grid, we ensure that all of our electric customers truly share both the benefits and costs of solar. Moreover, grid-connected community solar facilities like those we've been busy building across New Jersey produce electricity that while more expensive than traditional gas or nuclear power, is up to 40 percent cheaper than the energy from the average residential rooftop solar installation.

New Jersey can be proud to be a leader in turning landfills and brownfields green with renewable solar power -- preserving open space, creating green jobs and fighting climate change.

We are pursuing additional opportunities to give underutilized properties new, productive life as solar farms, providing clean energy for all of our customers.
