Earth Day and Every Day National Grid Employee Volunteers Invest In a Greener Future

April 24, 2024

National Grid employee volunteers have joined with partner organizations to improve neighborhood green spaces in the lead up to Earth Day, Monday, April 22. The events include a range of hands-on activities aimed at promoting a greener future and making an immediate and visible impact in the communities the company serves.

On Thursday, April 18, volunteers met at Queens Public Library-Glendale branch, to assist library staff with spring clean-up and planting in the gardens behind the Glendale Library building.

On Friday, April 19, National Grid employee volunteers joined City Parks Foundation It's My Park (IMP) to clean up and beautify Red Hook Recreation Center. Rev. Kimberly Council, Deputy Brooklyn Borough President, helped kick off the cleanup with opening remarks. This cleanup consisted of volunteers painting 595 feet of perimeter fence lines and trash and debris pickup across the grounds of the neighborhood sports complex and walkways, removing 55 bags. Additionally, volunteers helped with weeding, and raking across multiple zones of Red Hook Park to aid in the growth and vitality of planted trees and native flowers.

"Seeing is believing! National Grid is dedicated to promoting a greener clean energy future," said Eileen Cifone, Director External Engagement for New York City, National Grid.  "We must continue to be active within the communities that we live and work in order to ensure that dedication is a collaborative effort and that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to that shared vision."
