Description
The oil and gas industry is one of the most prolific water producers on the planet as it produces 3 barrels of water for every barrel of oil. However, as the water is produced as a byproduct, and due to its high salinity and other undesirable dissolved components, presents a major liability and challenge in its disposal.

Some of the common challenges the industry faces in the management of produced water include its impact on well deliverability, corrosion and scale of the wellbore and surface facilities and the costs associated with its disposal. Re-injection of the produced water for pressure support and water flooding has been adopted for many decades now as a strategy to gain some operational and economic benefit from this byproduct.

Given the acute shortage of potable water in the world in general and in the Middle East region in particular, the industry is now moving towards development of technologies to enable the use of produced water for irrigation purposes and other utilities.

This technical gathering will provide a platform that will address not only the innovations and best practices in addressing the "chronic" challenges such as impact on well productivity and corrosion/scale control, but also the latest technologies and trends in converting the saline and sour produced water into valuable resource to supplement the water supply to support the rapidly expanding economies and development activities in the region.

The event will bring together professionals, managers and decision makers from the industry as well as service providers, research institutions and academia to share the latest developments in effective water management and re-use.
