Views invited on new solar farm in Kent which could power over 140,000 homes

September 12, 2025

EDF power solutions UK and PS Renewables are launching a public consultation on early-stage plans for South Brooks Solar Farm, a proposed new solar farm with battery storage located in Kent.

South Brooks Solar Farm could provide enough clean energy to power over 140,000 homes and save around 225,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

Connecting into the National Grid at Dungeness Substation, South Brooks Solar Farm would make a significant contribution to securing Britain's domestic energy supply, powering the equivalent of around 20% of all homes in Kent.

An initial consultation on early proposals for South Brooks Solar Farm will run for six weeks between 18 September and 30 October 2025. Feedback from the local community, alongside environmental surveys and technical work, will help to shape the design of South Brooks Solar Farm, which will be refined and presented for further public consultation next year.

EDF power solutions UK's Director of Solar, Storage and Private Wire Matthew Boulton said, "We're pleased to introduce South Brooks Solar Farm which has the potential to produce much needed low-carbon electricity here in the UK, helping to power thousands of homes and businesses every year.

"We are currently at a very early stage in developing our proposals for South Brooks Solar Farm and look forward to hearing the views of the local community. Consultation is a vital part of our design process, and we encourage everyone to get involved in our upcoming consultation and comment on our plans. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping our plans and ensuring that the project aligns with community interests and needs"

Matt Hazell, Co-owner & Director at PS Renewables, said: "Our company was established to make a meaningful contribution towards mitigating climate change and we now have numerous renewable energy projects in development, under construction or operating across the UK.

We are excited to work with the local community to make use of the existing capacity at Dungeness, making sure we can deliver a scheme which provides substantial benefits for the environment and the local area."

The consultation on South Brooks Solar Farm will include a series of in-person events, enabling the local community to view the plans, meet the project team, ask questions and provide feedback. These events will take place at:

  • Thursday 25 September (4:30pm - 8:30pm) - Maude Community Centre, Station Road, New Romney, TN28 8LQ
  • Friday 26 September (12pm-4pm) - XIX @ The Warren Golf Club, St Andrew's Rd, Littlestone, TN28 8RB
