RES4Africa Foundation and the Electricity Sector Association of Kenya (ESAK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a framework of cooperation towards their shared objective of creating an enabling business environment in Kenyan electricity sector. The common goal is to foster the local electricity market development to guarantee a proper access to energy thanks to the deployment of renewable solutions.
Since 2012, RES4Africa strives to create an enabling environment for renewable energy investments in African countries to meet local energy needs and support the economic and social development of the continent, while ESAK is an association founded in 2019 with the mission to encourage the sustainable development of the Kenyan electricity sector through collaborations, advocacy and data driven solutions. Through this agreement, the parties undertake to identify areas in policy, regulation and market practice suitable for cooperation, as well as to share information on renewable energy including market statistics and data, research and best practices. RES4Africa and ESAK will also cooperate in the organisation and promotion of events, workshops and webinars, along with the coordination of capacity building projects and public-private collaboration programmes.
"Being among the fastest growing countries in East Africa and having abundant resources of solar, wind and geothermal energy, Kenya is one of the leading markets of the African energy sector: exploiting its potential efficiently is key to unleash the economic growth not only of the country but of the entire continent." commented Roberto Vigotti, RES4Africa Foundation's Secretary General "Strategic partnerships with Kenyan stakeholders like ESAK are fundamental to achieve RES4Africa's mission and support Africa in its path toward a sustainable future for all."
"RES4Africa is a strong strategic partner in facilitating the further development of the Renewable component of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and storage, both on the grid and for commercial and industrial installations" asserted George Aluru, ESAK Board Member. "As ESAK we look forward to collaborating in advocacy and research and provision of solutions to ensure an enabling environment for renewables in Kenya."
