RES4Africa Foundation and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) strengthen their collaboration for the enhancement of renewable energies in Morocco

April 6, 2021

RES4Africa Foundation and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) foster their cooperation in the promotion of renewable energy solutions in Morocco signing two letters of intent. Through these agreements, the two organisations aim at deepening their collaboration identifying synergies and exchanging know-how towards one common goal: to shape enabling environments for renewable energy investments.

RES4Africa and MASEN intend to jointly implement specific actions and activities considered fundamental for the development of renewable energies in Morocco.
Recognising the importance of know-how transfer, knowledge-creation activities, training courses and capacity building actions will be organised and promoted in areas of common interest in the field of renewable energy, such as RES4Africa's Micro-Grid Academy and Coalition's Expertise Programme. Both actors also intend to collaborate on a multilateral level, mobilising their expertise and resources, identifying possibilities of common interest and strengthening strategic dialogues both at the institutional level and with private stakeholders. A very important role is also played by South-South cooperation, considered a central issue to ensure sustainable development in the entire continent by both organisations.

By signing these agreements with MASEN, RES4Africa strengthens and consolidates its long relationship with Morocco, one of the first countries where the Foundation started its activities. Furthermore, the synergy of objectives and visions makes Morocco a key country for RES4Africa's action in Middle East and North Africa region, leading Africa's transition towards renewables. Moreover, RES4Africa also recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment of Morocco to formalise the cooperation on key strategic initiatives to promote the enhancement of renewable energy in the country.

"Morocco has been carrying out reforms and plans for the development of industry, infrastructure and energy" comments Roberto Vigotti, RES4Africa's Secretary General, "setting ambitious goals for the development of renewables to secure 42% of the energy mix from renewable sources by 2020 and 52% by 2030. Consolidating the relationship with this country and joining our efforts is not only strategic but fundamental in order to support the whole of African continent in its green transition."

Mr Bakkoury, Chairman and CEO of Masen, said "RES4Africa has implemented many projects to support the deployment of renewable energy solutions and to accelerate the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the horizon 2030. It is important to have partners who share a similar vision for the African continent." "In addition to setting ambitious objectives for the development of renewable energies, South-South cooperation and exchange of know-how are essential to carry out the green transition."

Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa (RES4Africa) Foundation promotes the deployment of large scale and decentralised renewable energy in African markets to meet local energy needs for growth. RES4Africa gathers a member network from across the clean energy value chain and supports the creation of an enabling environment for renewable energy investments and strategic partnerships.
