Endesa shows its commitment to Cuenca with the development of 5 renewable projects acquired from the ABO group

September 7, 2021

Highlights

  • Endesa will invest 315 million euros in the construction of 350 MW of new wind and solar capacity in the province of Cuenca.
  • During the construction of these facilities, 1,450 direct jobs will be created mainly for local labour, one of Endesa's commitments when it comes to creating shared value with the local communities in which it operates.

Endesa, as part of its commitment to the total decarbonisation of the energy mix and the development of renewable projects, continues to analyse its own projects and acquire renewable power portfolios from third parties with great experience. In this regard, the company has today announced the purchase of a photovoltaic and wind portfolio of 350 MW from ABO through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power Spain (EGPE)

These 350 MW represent an investment of 315 million euros that include both the acquisition and construction of this portfolio of projects, divided into 3 wind and 2 photovoltaic, to be developed in different locations in the province of Cuenca. The construction of these facilities is scheduled for this autumn, while their commissioning will be at the end of 2022.

To achieve this, 1,450 direct jobs will be generated during the construction phase and 27 permanent ones during the useful life of the plant, most of them from Cuenca, as this is one of the guiding principles of Endesa: the creation of shared value in the local communities in which it operates. The company's commitment will lead to the implementation of training courses for the unemployed in the area of renewables, paving the way for employment in a booming sector.

With this acquisition, this now makes about 1,700 MW of new capacity that Endesa has purchased from third parties with the objective of fulfilling the connection of new renewable power to the grid and thus increasing renewable capacity and continuing to work on the path towards green electrification. Endesa's 2021-2023 Strategic Plan specifically includes a connection plan for 700 MW in 2021, 1,400 MW in 2022 and another 1,700 MW in 2023.
