Endesa connects an 18 MW wind farm in Blesa and Moyuela, in the provinces of Teruel and Zaragoza, to the grid

September 23, 2020

Endesa, through its renewable energy division Enel Green Power Spain, has connected a 18 MW wind farm in the municipalities of Allueva, Anadón and Fonfría in Teruel province to the grid. The investment associated with this project amounts to 21.93 million euros.

The Cañaseca wind farm has five 3.6-MW wind turbines and will generate around 55.28 GWh per year. Its commissioning will prevent approximately 25,740 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere each year.

Enel Green Power Spain (EGPS) connected thirteen wind farms to the grid in Teruel and Zaragoza provinces in Spain's Aragón region in 2019, with a combined total capacity of 424 MW. In 2020, it plans to connect 82 new megawatts of wind power in these two provinces.

Endesa uses a project development model that encompasses actions for the creation of social value for the areas in which they are built, the so-called Creation of Shared Value (CSV) model. CSV plans are designed in collaboration with local stakeholders and their ultimate aim is to maximise the social and economic impact of the projects on the community. These CSV plans prioritise, among other actions, hiring local labour, as well as local catering services and accommodation for the workers.

The construction of this renewable capacity follows Endesa's strategy of completely decarbonising its generation mix by 2050. According to the company's latest Strategic Plan, the next milestone is to reach 10.2 GW of renewable installed capacity by 2022, compared with the estimated 7.4 GW at the end of 2019, for a total investment of some 3.8 billion.

Through EGPS, Endesa currently manages more than 7,477.5 MW of renewable capacity in Spain. Of this figure, 4,669 MW comes from conventional hydraulic generation; and the rest, 2,808.5 MW, comes from wind (2,377 MW), solar (352 MW), mini-hydro (79 MW) and other renewable sources (0.5 MW).

Enel Green Power, part of the Enel Group, is dedicated to the development and operation of renewables worldwide, with a presence in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Enel Green Power is a global leader in the green energy sector with an installed capacity of over 46.4 GW in a generation mix that includes wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower, and it is at the forefront of integrating innovative technologies into renewable energy plants.
