It was spades in the ground this morning as representatives from Tauhara North No.2 Trust, Ngati Tahu Ngati Whaoa and our delivery partner Ormat Technologies, Inc. joined our team to bless and celebrate construction starting on a fifth generating unit at the Nga Tamariki geothermal station.
We've worked hard with our partners Tauhara North #2 Trust and the wider mana whenua Ngati Tahu Ngati Whaoa to ensure this expansion considers the long-term sustainability of the whenua while also preserving the cultural significance of this important taonga.
The expansion of Nga Tamariki is a critical part of our pipeline of new renewable energy development and first generation of electricity from the new unit is expected in late 2025.
It will boost renewable energy generated at the station by 46MW (~390GWh per annum - equivalent to an additional 55,000 households). A huge shout out to our exceptional project and site teams who continue to deliver amazing mahi with a wealth of experience and expertise to our operations.
