Wello is transforming Basque energy as they deploy their wave energy converter off coast of Bilbao

September 17, 2021

Sustainable wave energy has just arrived at the Basque Country. After the trials and tribulations of the global pandemic, Wello's 600 kW Wave Energy Converter has been deployed at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform off the coast of Armintza.

Wello's Wave Energy Converter sets to continue the successes of its predecessor, continuing to generate direct to grid energy. The device will be undergoing 2 years of real-world ocean conditions, during this period Wello is holding several tests and trials to enable full validation of its wave energy conversion technology. Over the past years wave energy has made its slow creep towards market readiness, with the typical justifications for the lack of diversification of the energy mix remaining the same. The technologies are too costly, unable to survive the oceans waves, high cost of maintenance and overcomplicated. Now, with Wello's new deployed WEC we have aimed to mitigate all of this, the simplicity of the solution is unparalleled. With only one moving part this wave energy converter is the most robust solution out there. In the past year alone interest in the industry has skyrocketed, new initiatives have been set, governments and large companies are starting to see the competitive advantage of wave energy. This deployment comes at the perfect time to showcase what the future of energy will look like. Wello is extremely excited to keep pushing ahead to the next milestone!
