RenewableUK comment on the Conservative Party's proposal to abolish the Climate Change Act

October 3, 2025

Commenting on the Conservative Party's proposal to abolish the Climate Change Act, RenewableUK's Deputy Chief Executive Jane Cooper said:

"Investors would be disappointed to lose a framework which undoubtedly builds confidence that the UK will continue to develop clean technologies, at a time when the sector is growing far faster than the economy at large. According to the CBI, the clean power sector is supporting nearly one million jobs across the net zero economy and its supply chains. It should be seen as an engine for growth, with wind energy alone now employing 55,000 people and a growing supply chain of around 2,000 companies across the UK.

"We're confident that having honest and open debate about electricity costs would lead any Government of any party to roll out new homegrown energy projects, including renewables which are cost-competitive with any other power source, as well as playing a vital role in strengthening the UK's energy security. The sector will continue working with current and future governments to ensure we can continue delivering secure energy and jobs whilst lowering the costs of technologies and costs to billpayers".
