RenewableUK has welcomed the Government's submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which sets out the UK's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for the period of 2031 to 2035. The UK's 2035 NDC target is to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions by at least 81% by 2035, compared to 1990 levels, and the Government has this week shared further information on the scope, timing, sectors and greenhouse gases covered by it, as well as the policies and measures that will deliver our ambitions.
Commenting on the news, RenewableUK's Head of Strategic Communications Nathan Bennett said:
"The UK is back in a position of leadership in clean energy and decarbonisation. Not only are we submitting this NDC ahead of time, but we have a clear plan to ramp up renewable energy to underpin it, which we can share with the world. This is particularly true of technologies like offshore wind and tidal stream, where we have some of the largest projects in the world already operating in UK waters."
