BUSINESS NETWORK FOR OFFSHORE WIND
Business Network encouraged by bipartisan infrastructure deal supporting the offshore wind industry

August 6, 2021

The U.S. Senate voted last night (July 28) to begin debate on the bipartisan Infrastructure Package championed by President Biden and key Senators. The agreed framework contains numerous provisions that, if enacted, will jumpstart offshore wind supply chain opportunities and enable states to strategically invest to develop port facilities.

The proposed legislation includes several infrastructure investments the Business Network has advocated for, including funding for port and transmission upgrades, a manufacturing tax credit, and new initiatives at the U.S. Department of Energy that would deploy innovative technologies, support localized workforce development, and create supply chain pathways.

The following statement can be attributed to Liz Burdock, president & CEO of the Business Network for Offshore Wind:

"The Business Network is encouraged by the bipartisan support and vision shown in the infrastructure packaged agreed to by the White House and Senate. While we await final details, it is already clear that the proposed infrastructure package contains significant investments that will lay a foundation for a strong U.S. supply chain, provide increased funding for needed port enhancements, and tackle manufacturing and transmission challenges. Offshore wind is a game-changing new industry with the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs while providing millions of communities with clean energy. The U.S. industry is at an important development point and continued bipartisan support will help ensure that the U.S. captures the full economic and environmental benefits offshore wind promises."
