ENERCON CANADA
Technical Team Launches Investigation into Isolated Incident Involving ENERCON Turbine in Nova Scotia

August 22, 2016

The Canadian office of ENERCON, an international leader in wind turbine design and sales, informs of an isolated incident that occurred on Wednesday, August 17th at the Point Tupper wind farm located close to Port Hawkesbury, in Nova Scotia. This event led the technical team of ENERCON to launch an investigation to determine its cause.

During a scheduled component exchange, an incident triggered the ENERCON evacuation protocol. The technician on site diligently followed such protocol, and safely evacuated the turbine and the surroundings in time to avoid any injuries prior to the turbine's collapse. Only property damage has been reported.

With close to 1,000 wind turbines installed in Canada over the course of the last 15 years, this is the first time that such an event has occurred.

ENERCON Canada has confirmed that a technical team has launched an investigation as to the causes of the incident. This incident did not occur during regular operations and is undoubtedly an isolated one.

The affected turbine is currently being disconnected from the grid and the rest of the wind farm continues to safely operate.
