The Kawerau geothermal field, in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty, has been a source of renewable energy for many years, with a number of geothermal power plants harbessing the geothernal enrgy creatived by thermal activity deep underground.
The Te Ahi O Maui geothermal project proposes to design and build a geothermal power plant on a site 2.3 kilometres north-east of the Kawerau township.
The project partners are Eastland Generation (part of the Eastland Group) and the Kawerau A8D Whenua Trust, owners of the land where the geothermal power plant will be built.
