GLOBAL WIND ENERGY COUNCIL
Three new countries eligible for GWEC's Women in Wind Global Leadership Program

April 30, 2024

The Women in Wind Global Leadership Program is delighted to announce a significant expansion for this year's scheme. In a historic first for the program, applications will now be welcomed from three more emerging markets for wind - China, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. These emerging markets have enormous potential to emerge as leaders in the wind sector.

Building on the success of five years of the scheme, the program is now receiving applications for its 2024 cohort. Since its inception in 2019, with an initial cohort of eight mentees, the program has continuously evolved to meet the growing demand for empowering women in the wind industry.

Now entering its sixth year, the initiative, jointly hosted by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET), is poised to accelerate the careers of women in vital emerging wind markets across the globe.

"Gender diversity is not just an ethical ambition; it is an essential catalyst for innovation and success in the energy sector," remarks Jeanette Gitobu, Director of Women in Wind at GWEC. "As we open our doors to new markets, we are committed to driving change and fostering a diverse workforce that leverages the unique perspectives and skills of women."

Christine Lins, Executive Director of GWNET, echoed that sentiment, saying: "We are excited to work again together with GWEC and to launch the sixth edition of the Women in Wind Global Leadership Program. During the last five years, we have witnessed the high-caliber of talent of participating mentees from emerging economies as well as from mentors from the wind industry.  For 2024, we look forward to another cohort of female wind experts from all around the world who will join our vibrant global professional network, share knowledge and experiences and empower one another in the wind sector."
