The Bureau of Land Management is holding a competitive geothermal lease sale on Tuesday, October 23. The sale includes 11 parcels totaling 27,331.38 acres. The BLM will hold the lease sale online via www.energynet.com. The auction website is open to everyone; however, you must register as a bidder on the EnergyNet site before the sale in order to submit bids for any individual parcel.
Bidding will begin Tuesday, October 23, at 10:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT)/8:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Each parcel will have its own unique open bidding period, with start and stop times clearly identified on the auction website. The open bidding period for each parcel will run for one hour, from start to finish, and bids will only be accepted during a parcel's open bidding period.
Geothermal leases are for a 10-year period. Annual rental for a competitive lease is $2 per acre for the first year, and $3 per acre for lease years 2-10. Annual rental for a noncompetitive lease is $1 per acre for lease years 1-10. Additional environmental analysis would need to be conducted to receive permits to drill or build a facility to develop the energy from the geothermal source.
A complete summary of the parcels to be offered, GIS shapefiles and other documents related to the geothermal lease sale are available at https://go.usa.gov/xP9uJ. Documents related to all lease sales are also available at the Information Access Center at the BLM Nevada State Office.
