"Placing the Crawfish River Solar Project into service is a major accomplishment that will benefit our customers for decades," said Lee Hanson, assistant vice president of strategic projects at Alliant Energy. "This solar site represents our continued commitment to providing reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible energy solutions for the communities we serve. We appreciate the support and partnerships with local landowners, community leaders and energy advocates. Together, we are making significant strides toward a cleaner and brighter energy future."
The Crawfish River Solar Project represents a long-term reduction of traditional fossil fuels for energy generation and will contribute to a clean environment and clean energy future for Wisconsin and the Midwest. Native grasses and flowers underneath, between and around the solar panels prevent soil erosion, enhance groundwater filtration and create pollinator-friendly habitat. In addition to generating clean, reliable electricity for Alliant Energy customers, the company expects the town of Jefferson and Jefferson County will receive a combined $9 million in new shared revenue over the 30-year life of the project.
The Crawfish River Solar Project is part of Alliant Energy's Clean Energy Blueprint, a strategic roadmap to cost-effectively accelerate renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions. The company, already the largest owner and operator of solar generation in Wisconsin, expects to add 200 MW of additional solar capacity to the grid by mid-2024. The growth in sustainable energy generation combined with recently approved battery energy storage systems is a major step for Alliant Energy as it works toward its aspirational goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from utility operations by 2050.
