MARYLAND ENERGY ADMINISTRATION
Maryland Energy Administration Requests Public Input on More Equitable Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Program

September 24, 2024

New effort aims to reduce transportation greenhouse gas emissions and increase access to affordable, reliable EV charging networks in under-resourced Maryland communities

The Maryland Energy Administration today (Sept 23) announced a Notice of Intent to launch a new Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Equity Program for Fiscal Year 2025. The agency also has issued a Request for Information for electric vehicle stakeholders and the general public to inform the final design of the program.

This new program is being developed as a result of Governor Moore's commitment to invest $23 million in electric vehicle charging infrastructure in low- and moderate income, historically overburdened and underserved communities in Maryland.

"This new program is all about making EVs accessible to Marylanders who live in often-overlooked neighborhoods or in multi-family housing situations where accessing EV charging can be difficult," said Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul G. Pinsky. "The agency is seeking to increase access to affordable and reliable charging networks for all Marylanders, while making significant cuts to greenhouse gas emissions along the way."

More information regarding the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Equity Program Notice of Intent and Request for Information can be found on the program webpage. MEA requests that responses be submitted by Wednesday, October 23, 2024 in order for comments to be considered for the FY 2025 program. Any responses submitted after this date will be considered for the FY 2026 program.

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) promotes clean, affordable, reliable energy and energy-related greenhouse gas emission reductions to benefit Marylanders in a just and equitable manner.
