Eversource and Torrington Partner on Energy Efficiency Projects
Comprehensive upgrades saving community more than 420,000 kilowatt-hours of power annually while lowering carbon footprint

August 13, 2024
Following major energy efficiency upgrades to five community buildings and street lighting, the City of Torrington is now saving about 427,000 kilowatt-hours of power annually - an equivalent of reducing the emissions from more than 760,000 miles driven by a gas-powered car. Working with Eversource and contractor Fulcrum Energy Solutions, the city achieved that goal in less than one year. In addition to upgraded street lighting, multiple energy efficiency improvements were made at the Fire Department, Police Department, Teen Center, Veteran's Office and Public Works Department.

"Strong partnerships lead to meaningful changes, and we're thrilled to support Torrington's environmental goals through efficiency solutions that will help the city save energy and reduce their carbon footprint," said Eversource Vice President of Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility Tilak Subrahmanian. "Through the Energize Connecticut Energy Opportunities program, the city received incentives to invest in energy-efficient equipment that will have long-term benefits for their community, the environment and their long-term budget."

Eversource supported a wide range of energy efficiency measures for the city including long-lasting and efficient LED lighting, high-efficiency boilers, insulation, updated energy-saving controls for HVAC systems and hot water pumps, and low-flow faucet aerators, which reduce the flow of water without reducing pressure - saving both water and energy.

"The completion of these municipal projects marks a significant milestone in Torrington's sustainability journey," said Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone. "Through our collaboration with Eversource, we have both enhanced the energy efficiency of our public buildings as well as set a new benchmark for future initiatives. These improvements reflect our commitment to creating a healthier environment for our residents and ensuring responsible stewardship of our resources. I am proud of the progress we've made and look forward to continuing our efforts with Eversource in building a sustainable future for all."
