Georgia Power fills critical EV charging gap at the foothills of the Northeast Georgia mountains

November 10, 2021

Georgia Power has launched a new community electric vehicle (EV) charger at 1585 441 Bypass in Cornelia, Georgia - filling a critical gap in charging capabilities available between Gainesville and Clayton.

As families enjoy the late fall weather and prepare to head to the mountains for getaways this holiday season, they will now be able to charge up their electric vehicles quickly and affordably.

The EV charger is available for use starting today (Nov 4) with complimentary charging through November 30th.  The charging capabilities are conveniently located at the foothills of the Northeast Georgia mountains that receive heavy traffic as visitors and local residents head to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Chattahoochee National Forest, and north to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina.

As part of a statewide initiative to enable EV adoption and connect communities, Georgia Power is building a network of safe, reliable, and convenient charging infrastructure for an ever-growing market segment of drivers. The new EV chargers in Habersham County are the 55th Direct Current (DC) Fast Chargers that the company has launched across the state.

Charging sessions require ChargePoint authorization, which is available at www.georgiapower.chargepoint.com.

The installation represents the newest technology in EV fast chargers, offering charging speeds up to 125kW - adding 100 miles in 12 minutes - dual dispensers and power sharing capability. Georgia Power has installed chargers in several cities including Atlanta, Rome, Brunswick, Columbus, Cleveland, Lavonia, Kingsland, Tifton, Forest Park and Milledgeville.

Georgia Power is committed to growing the electric vehicle market and is dedicated to providing customers with the resources they need to learn more about the benefits and potential savings of driving electric. Learn more at www.GeorgiaPower.com/EV.
