ScottishPower awards HSM Offshore Energy the construction of the substation for its East Anglia Two offshore wind farm

April 17, 2025

ScottishPower Renewables, Iberdrola's renewable subsidiary in the UK, has awarded HSM Offshore Energy a contract for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the offshore substation for its East Anglia Two wind farm in North Sea waters and the jacket foundation on which it will be placed.

The high-voltage offshore substation will weigh around 5,100 tonnes and its jacket foundation will weigh another 3,700 tonnes. Its job will be to collect the electricity generated by the wind turbines, transform the voltage and carry it on submarine cables to the onshore transmission grid.

Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the jacket foundation ready for installation in the third quarter of 2027 and the top of the substation by the end of 2027.

The 960 MW East Anglia Two offshore wind farm will be located in the southern North Sea, approximately 33 km off the Suffolk coast at its closest point to Southwold and 37 km from Lowestoft, where ScottishPower has its offshore wind operations and maintenance base. When operational, it will produce enough clean energy to power the equivalent of almost one million homes.
