Ilmatar's Korpilevonmäki Wind Farm Completed Months Earlier - Commercial Production Started

March 4, 2025

Ilmatar has started commercial power production at a new wind farm in Säkylä, southwestern Finland. The six wind turbines at the Korpilevonmäki wind farm will produce more than 38 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy for the grid.

Korpilevonmäki has been calculated to produce a total of 125 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy per year. This is equivalent to the electricity needs of up to 50,000 apartments in apartment buildings or more than 6,200 single-family homes.

The Korpilevonmäki wind farm was one of the few renewable energy investment decisions made in Finland in 2023. The wind farm was completed well ahead of schedule in just 16 months and well below budget.

The turbines at Korpilevonmäki represent the latest technology in the industry. With a sweep height of 250 meters, they are also among the tallest turbines built in Finland.

Seamless cooperation and strong local acceptance support project success

Petri Ainonen, Ilmatar's Construction Director, describes the project's progress as exceptionally successful.

"The construction of Korpilevonmäki started at the end of 2023. It has been rewarding to see how careful pre-planning and project development work has borne fruit during construction. It has also been great to follow the seamless cooperation with our partners, and to see how smooth stakeholder and authority work can be in Finland. The fact that the project was completed months ahead of schedule shows the importance of both excellent preparation and effective cooperation between all parties involved in the project. Thanks for the success go especially to Ilmatar's skilled and dedicated staff and our excellent contractor partners. A common goal and the will to succeed will take you far," says Ainonen.

"Korpilevonmäki is an example of a well-planned and implemented wind farm project that had strong local acceptance from the beginning. The project was originally initiated by local landowners, and Ilmatar's team successfully completed the project," says Ainonen.

Ilmatar has a strong foothold as a renewable energy producer

The Korpilevonmäki wind farm is Ilmatar's first power plant complex to start commercial production this year. The previous Ilmatar wind farm, a 36-turbine complex in Alajärvi, was commissioned for commercial use at the end of December 2023.

Ilmatar currently has nine wind farms and one solar farm in commercial production. Korpilevonmäki is Ilmatar's tenth renewable energy park. The company is also building the 30-turbine Pahkakoski wind farm in Yli-Ii, Northern Ostrobothnia.

Ilmatar's growing production of renewable energy strengthens the company's position as a Finnish pioneer.
