Making the decision to invest in solar energy for your home is an important one. At CPS Energy, we are committed to providing our customers with all the information and support they need to make the best choices for their energy needs. From initial inquiries to installation and beyond, our dedicated team is here to assist you every step of the way. Protecting our customers is our top priority, and we encourage you to explore our resources, ask questions, and make informed decisions.

The following question and answer section will guide you through the many resources CPS Energy offers for residential solar.

How do I know if solar panels are right for my home?

CPS Energy works closely with Build San Antonio Green to offer customers Bring Solar Home, an educational tool to learn, decide, and apply for technical assistance. Under the learn tab you can review the many different areas of the solar installation process. There are tools to learn how solar energy works, factors to consider, how to make your home energy efficient, and more!

What should you do first if you are ready to invest in solar panels for your home?

First, CPS Energy encourages customers to ensure their homes are running as efficiently as possible. When a home is energy efficient, it will reduce the size of the solar system you will need. Customers can sign up for a free energy assessment to gauge their home's current energy efficiency. This assessment will evaluate your home and provide recommendations, if needed, to make your home energy efficient.

How do I know I am working with a reputable solar installer?

With a growing interest in solar, comes a growing increase in scams. According to a recent article by Utility Dive, scammers have multiple opportunities to provide misleading information during the solar sale process. This is something CPS Energy works diligently to mitigate.

We require registered contractors to fulfill and maintain the following requirements to be listed on the Registered Contractor List:

  • Register as an Electrical Contractor with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
  • Employ a photovoltaic (PV) Installer certified through the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP)
  • Employ a Master Electrician
  • Maintain General Liability Insurance
  • Register with the City of San Antonio (COSA) as an electrical contractor
  • Maintain good standing with public consumer protection entities such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB)

The community can review the registered contractors list which is updated monthly with contractors that meet the standards of CPS Energy.

How can I find more information on CPS Energy's solar resources?

Customers can view our rooftop solar webpage and access solar resources such as incentives, registered contractors, billing facts, frequently asked questions, and much more!

"Solar is a large investment, and we want our customers to have as much information as possible," said Ana Lozano, Director of Technology & Product Innovation at CPS Energy. "We have a dedicated phone line with team members ready to answer questions and talk to customers about solar before they decide to install, during the process, and after."

Protecting our customers is a top priority at CPS Energy. We urge customers to do as much research as possible, shop around, get multiple quotes, call us at (210)353-2SAV (2728) option one, or email the CPS Energy solar team at cpsesolar@cpsenergy.com.
