Puget Sound Energy expands community solar program with four new King County arrays

February 2, 2026

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is expanding its Community Solar program with four new arrays coming to south King County as we start the new year.

The new installations, to be located in Auburn, Kent (two locations), and Renton, will add more than one megawatt of solar energy capacity - enough renewable energy to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 200 typical households. The arrays will start generating electricity after installation in early 2026.

The Community Solar program offers PSE customers a simple way to support local clean energy development without installing solar panels on their own property.

Benefits of Community Solar:

  • Income eligible customers can participate in the program at no cost at specific array sites.
  • Local, cleaner energy: Replaces participant's energy used with renewable solar energy.
  • Good for the planet: Reduces participating customers' carbon footprints.
  • No installation: PSE builds and maintains solar equipment, so customers don't have to.

PSE added two new Community Solar arrays in our service area in 2025, including two at the Bellingham and Puyallup service centers. PSE plans to continue this solar expansion into 2026 with 10 community solar locations planned so far, not including any other projects yet to be announced.

This expansion continues to make solar energy accessible to apartment renters, condominium dwellers, and anyone who wants to reduce their personal carbon footprint and participate in the clean energy transition.

"These four new Community Solar arrays represent our commitment to providing customers with more options to participate in our region's clean energy transition," said PSE Director of Customer Energy Innovation John Mannetti. "Community Solar eliminates the barriers of installation costs, timelines, and maintenance concerns while delivering the clean energy benefits our customers want."

PSE will offer more than 800 shares of these arrays to interested customers once available, allowing participation in solar energy generation through subscription. This program supports customers who want to accelerate their clean energy adoption ahead of PSE's Clean Energy Implementation Plan (CEIP) timeline.

The Community Solar expansion is part of PSE's broader strategy to diversify its fuel mix and work toward installed capacity goals outlined in the company's Clean Energy Implementation Plan. These projects help make solar energy accessible to all customers, regardless of their housing situation or property ownership status.
