Hybrid power for the future: VSB kicks off construction of hybrid energy park Löberitz in Saxony-Anhalt in November 2025

July 4, 2025

In the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, construction preparations will begin in August 2025 for a hybrid renewable energy project comprising a 21.6 MW wind farm and a 19 MWp ground-mounted photovoltaic installation along the A9 motorway. Located within the municipalities of Zörbig and Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Löberitz Wind & PV marks VSB Group's first hybrid project in Germany. The PV component is being developed in partnership with the municipal utility Stadtwerke Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

Preparatory work for the solar park will commence in August 2025, directly adjacent to the Berlin-Munich A9 motorway, north of Zschepkau. Initial steps will include site demarcation within the Bitterfeld-Wolfen area, followed by field hamster monitoring to identify potential habitats and ensure early implementation of protective measures. In September, the State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology will conduct on-site investigations to identify any archaeological assets and ensure responsible land use. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2026. Stadtwerke Bitterfeld-Wolfen is partnering on part of the PV project and holds an option to acquire 5 MWp of capacity to provide locally generated green electricity to its customers.

In November, VSB will commence road construction for the repowering of the Löberitz Wind Farm, located in the municipalities of Zörbig and Bitterfeld-Wolfen. The project involves replacing five older Vestas V52 turbines with three state-of-the-art Vestas V172-7.2 MW wind turbines, increasing the total installed capacity fivefold - from 4.25 MW to 21.6 MW.

The hybrid energy park is being built on agricultural land near a gravel extraction site. One of the three wind turbines will share a plot with the PV system to optimize land use. By combining wind and solar technologies, the project will help balance daily and seasonal fluctuations in energy generation, ensuring a more consistent and predictable power output and contributing to grid stability. Both the wind farm and the PV system will feed electricity into the grid via VSB's Salzfurtkapelle substation.

"The combination of wind and solar in a single project is a first for the region. We're pleased to have found a committed partner in the Löberitz Agricultural Cooperative, which is providing a significant portion of the land. Our sincere thanks also go to the cities of Zörbig and Bitterfeld-Wolfen for their support and willingness to pioneer this path with us," says Thomas Winkler, Managing Director of VSB Germany.

"VSB has been active in project development for nearly 30 years and has a long-standing presence in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld region. We look forward to delivering many more megawatts of wind, solar, and battery storage projects in collaboration with our local partners," adds Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group.
