BrightNight and Cordelio Power Announce Power Purchase Agreement with Arizona Public Service to Provide Clean Power to Arizona

February 5, 2025

BrightNight, the next generation global renewable power producer built to deliver clean and dispatchable solutions, and Cordelio Power announced today (Feb 4) a new power purchase agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS), the largest electricity provider in Arizona.

Under the agreement, APS will purchase carbon-free energy from BrightNight and Cordelio's Pioneer Clean Energy Center, a state-of-the-art hybrid 300-megawatt solar and 1200-megawatt-hour battery energy storage facility located in Yuma County, Arizona. The Pioneer project will deliver reliable, affordable, and clean electricity to APS customers, support the region's growing energy needs and enhance grid resilience.

The Pioneer Clean Energy Center represents a significant investment in Yuma County and the broader Arizona community. In addition to generating clean power, the facility will create hundreds of construction and operations jobs, generate substantial tax revenue for local schools and public services, and provide direct benefits to the surrounding community. The Pioneer Clean Energy Center also offers a sustainable source of renewable energy without placing undue strain on local infrastructure or water resources, ensuring long-term benefits for the region.

"At APS, we thoughtfully evaluate and select projects that bring the most long-term value to our customers. The Pioneer Clean Energy Center is part of our expanding solar power and battery energy storage portfolio developed to meet growing demand with reliable service. Projects like Pioneer will help deliver cost-competitive energy to Arizona's communities over the next several decades," said Brian Cole, APS Vice President of Resource Management.

"Our agreement with APS underscores BrightNight's commitment to providing reliable and affordable clean energy solutions that benefit our customers and the communities they serve," said Martin Hermann, CEO of BrightNight. "The Pioneer Clean Energy Center is a shining example of how renewable energy projects can drive local economic growth, support energy resilience, and create a lasting positive impact. We are proud to work with APS and Yuma stakeholders to help meet Arizona's energy goals and deliver meaningful benefits to Yuma County."

The Pioneer project is expected to begin construction in September 2025, with operations commencing in April of 2027. Once complete, the facility will play a key role in supporting APS's commitment to meeting Arizona's growing power demand with reliable, cost-effective clean energy.
