NATIONAL HYDROPOWER ASSOCIATION
House Energy and Commerce Committee Unanimously Advances ‘Build More Hydro' Bill

March 3, 2026

Malcolm Woolf, the President and CEO of the National Hydropower Association, released the following statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted unanimously to advance the Build More Hydro bill (H.R. 2072). It now heads to the full House for consideration.

"This legislation is critically important to meeting Americans' energy needs. It empowers the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to extend construction deadlines for around three dozen hydropower projects delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain shortages, and other unique hurdles that threaten their completion. Without this lifeline, 2.6 GW of clean baseload hydropower are at risk of not being deployed throughout the country, which would result in hundreds of millions of dollars in lost investments, and could result in less reliable and affordable power for millions.

"NHA applauds the House Energy and Commerce Committee for advancing the Build More Hydro bill on a bipartisan basis. Thanks to Rep. Newhouse for leading the legislation in the House, as well as Chairman Guthrie and Ranking Member Pallone for supporting it. I urge the House to follow the Senate's lead and pass it as soon as possible. It's long past time to make it law."
