The French government has published its 3rd multi-annual energy programme (PPE 3), which includes ambitious targets for accelerating the deployment of geothermal energy solutions, building on France's national geothermal action plan (published in February 2023) and the measures that were announced in June 2025.
The new document states that shallow geothermal projects should produce at least 15 TWh of energy in 2035 (compared to 3.2 TWh in 2022), while deep geothermal projects should produce at least 8 TWh of energy in 2035 (compared to 2.2 TWh in 2022).
