Commitment to Increase Clean Electricity Supply Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant Successfully Ran Unit Rated Capacity Test of Unit-5 33 Megawatt

Highlights

  • Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant, located in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province, successfully completed the Unit Rated Capacity (URC) test for Unit-5 of Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant with 33 MW capacity on December 12-15, 2024.

  • Due to this success, Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant now has the gross capacity to produce above 200 Megawatts of clean geothermal electricity to be delivered to the North Sumatra electricity grid through PLN's 150 KV high voltage line.

PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (PT SMGP), a subsidiary of KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd., successfully completed the Unit Rated Capacity (URC) test for Unit-5 of Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant with 33 MW capacity. This URC test was conducted on 12-15 December 2024 with total test time of 72 hours.

Dr. Yan Tang, President Director of PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power said, "The success of URC Unit 5 reflects the dedication of the PT SMGP team and synergic collaboration with stakeholders and partners, supported by Kaishan technology in improving operational efficiency and sustainable geothermal energy management. We are optimistic that this achievement will accelerate Indonesia's transition to new and renewable energy, and strengthen the contribution of PT SMGP and KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. more broadly in supporting 2030 Emission Reduction and Indonesia's 2060 Net Zero Emission targets."

In synergy with PT PLN (Persero), the Unit-5 URC Test was supervised by personnel from PLN PUSERTIF (Certification Center) represented by Rian Guntoro and PLN UIP SUMBAGUT represented by Aryo Saloko. The success of URC Unit-5 is also a testament to PT SMGP's dedication and commitment in ensuring the reliable and safe operation of PLTP for North Sumatra's electricity supply. This achievement marks the fulfillment of one of the main requirements to achieve the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Unit-5 in December 2024.

Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant is located in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province. Since starting commercial operations in 2019, Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant continues to grow and after this test reached a total gross generation of Unit-1 to Unit-5 above 200 MW. PT SMGP and KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd., hope that this milestone can support Indonesia towards a clean new and renewable energy transition to create a sustainable positive impact on the environment and Indonesian society.

About Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power

PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (SMGP) is the legal holder of the right to manage and develop geothermal resources in Sorik Marapi - Roburan - Sampuraga Geothermal Work Area in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra. SMGP obtained Geothermal Business Permit in 2010 and Geothermal Permit since 2015, covering an area of 62,900 HA and potential geothermal resources up to 240 MW. In 2016, KS Orka Renewables Pte. Ltd. acquired 95% of PT SMGP shares from its previous sponsor. Until now, PT SMGP has achieved Commercial Operating Date (COD) for Unit I of 42 MW in 2019, Unit II of 44 MW in 2021, Unit III of 46 MW and Unit IV of 27 MW in 2023.
