World Environment Day, PGE Together with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, clean Malalayang Beach

Commemorating World Environment Day which falls on June 5, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE), which is an affiliate of Subholding Power & New Renewable Energy through its business unit PGE Area Lahendong, held the Indonesia Coastal Clean Up (ICCU) action, as well as rehabilitation Coral reefs at Malalayang Beach, Manado-North Sulawesi on Saturday (10/06).

The ICCU activity in Malalayang Manado is PGE's active support for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) program and the community regarding environmental sustainability.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the Head of the Waste Management Division at the North Sulawesi Province Environment Service, Nike Mamahit expressed his appreciation to PGE and the communities involved. He said "Today's ICCU activities with PGE and the community are expected to be an example and driving force for other business actors in North Sulawesi to be able to work together in environmental sustainability, especially regarding waste management."

Acting General Manager of PGE Lahendong Area, Fairuz Noor said that this concrete action was the actualization of PGE's commitment to uphold Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) aspects as the main pillars of PGE's operational activities.
"We express our greatest appreciation to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, North Sulawesi Provincial Government, Manado City Government, Manado Water Sports Community and of course the surrounding community who have given us the opportunity and support PGE to work in environmental preservation today at Malalayang Beach Manado" .

In the ICCU activity with a total of 106 participants, they succeeded in cleaning up a total of 432 kg of waste and rehabilitating 500 coral reef seedlings.

The ICCU was successfully implemented with the participation and support of various parties including the North Sulawesi Environmental Service, Manado City Environmental Service, Manado City Government, Boboca Diving Club, Mudung Family Diving Club, and Reformers.

The ICCU is an effort by the Directorate of Pollution Control and Coastal and Marine Damage to control marine debris pollution.

Indonesia Coastal Clean Up (ICCU) is a movement that involves the community and all stakeholders to clean up coastal and marine areas from trash.

The electricity generation carried out by PGE in the Lahendong Area from Geothermal energy itself is one of the "backbones" in electricity supply in North Sulawesi and Gorontalo. Currently, the geothermal steam field and PLTP PGE Lahendong area are capable of producing 120 MW of electricity which contributes around 25-30% of the electricity needs of the people in North Sulawesi and Gorontalo.

The installed geothermal capacity in the PGE working area contributes around 80% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, with a potential reduction of CO2 emissions of around 9.7 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
