PGE Demonstrates Digital Transformation Boosts National Geothermal Efficiency and Competitiveness

October 31, 2025

The use of G-Bionic technology is a strategic step for PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) to increase business productivity and efficiency. Ahmad Yani, Director of Operations at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, who also initiated this program, emphasized PGE's strategic role in supporting the acceleration of the national energy transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The G-Bionic initiative represents PGE's concrete commitment to carrying out its mandate to develop digital capabilities, as stated in its IPO prospectus, as one of the main foundations for accelerating its target of becoming the energy company with the largest geothermal capacity in the world.

Furthermore, Ahmad Yani explained that optimizing geothermal development must begin within the organization, one way being through adaptive transformation to advances in the digital era. He emphasized that the use of technology is not merely a tool, but a key factor in strengthening competitiveness and ensuring PGE's business sustainability amidst the dynamics of the global energy industry.

"Energy self-sufficiency is the foundation of national independence amidst global dynamics and an increasingly real climate crisis. Through digital transformation, PGE strives to accelerate data-driven decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the development of precise and sustainable clean energy. This is the background to the launch of the G-Bionic program," said Ahmad Yani.

Initiated in 2023, G-Bionic is a series of long-term digital transformation programs designed to serve as a gateway to a data-driven work culture and the foundation for data-driven decision-making across all PGE operations.

"This technology is oriented towards value creation. Through this initiative, we are not only transforming systems but also shaping a new culture in the way we work and make decisions. The implementation of G-Bionic is a concrete step by PGE in implementing 52 digital initiatives spanning the entire operational chain, from subsurface, drilling, surface, to enterprise," he added.

  • He also explained that G-Bionic will produce various benefits, including:
  • Reducing drilling costs by up to 6 percent,
  • Optimizing uptime to 100,000 productive work hours,
  • Increasing production by up to 6 percent through well optimization, increasing power plant efficiency, and reducing lost production opportunities through the implementation of machine learning and digital twins.
  • Estimated value creation is equivalent to a 5 to 7 percent increase in net income per year.

Technology as the foundation for achieving the 3 GW target

Independent Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero), Raden Adjeng Sondaryani, expressed her appreciation for the development of G-Bionic at the PGE Digital Day 2025 event in Jakarta on Monday (October 27, 2025). According to her, this initiative signifies Pertamina's commitment to accelerating digital transformation to realize Indonesia's green energy future.

"Amidst the dynamics of the global energy transition, Pertamina carries a significant mandate to realize national energy independence and encourage the development of clean energy, in line with the government's Asta Cita (Asta Cita). Digital transformation is a strategic instrument for achieving efficiency, accurate decision-making, and long-term competitiveness. Through initiatives like G-Bionic, PGE demonstrates concrete steps in building a data-driven work culture that is adaptive, safe, and sustainable as a stepping stone toward its aspiration to become a world-class clean energy company," said Raden Adjeng Sondaryani.

Julfi Hadi, President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, echoed this sentiment. He stated that integrated digital transformation is key to PGE's goal of achieving its 1.8 gigawatt (GW) target by 2033 and developing geothermal potential to 3 GW.

Julfi emphasized, "Indonesia has 40 percent of the world's geothermal potential, and PGE is committed to taking a leading role in making Indonesia a leading global geothermal player. Through G-Bionic, we are accelerating end-to-end digital transformation, from exploration and development to operations. We are taking this step to drive efficiency while increasing drilling success. We view this innovation as a game-changer toward PGE's grand vision of becoming a world-class geothermal energy leader."

As a forum for discussion, PGE Digital Day 2025 featured various activities, including the dissemination of the G-Bionic Project Update, panel discussions, and sharing sessions showcasing experiences in utilizing digital technology from Pertamina's subsidiaries.

The event was also attended by Gigih Udi Atmo, Director of Geothermal Energy at the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and President Commissioner of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; Raden Adjeng Sondaryani, Independent Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero); Agung Wicaksono, Director of Business Transformation and Sustainability of PT Pertamina (Persero); Julfi Hadi, President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; Edwil Suzandi, Director of Exploration and Development of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; Yurizki Rio, Director of Finance of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; Ahmad Yani, Director of Operations of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; and a number of relevant stakeholders.

In addition, the panel discussion series included Arfan Arlanda, CEO of Jejakin; Debby Alishinta, Managing Director of Accenture Indonesia; Farah Fitria R., Director of Digital Business at Peruri; Rivana Mezaya, Director of Digital & Sustainability at Grab Indonesia; and Irving Hutagalung, Customer Success Director at Microsoft Indonesia.
