PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (PNRE), has received 11 Performance Charters from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) for the implementation of occupational safety and health, geothermal engineering, and the control of pollution and/or damage to the geothermal environment for the 2021-2022 period. The award consists of seven Aditama charters and four Main charters.
The award was presented on the night of the awarding of the 2022 K3 and Geothermal Engineering Implementation Performance Award and the 2022 Geothermal Pollution and/or Environmental Damage Control Performance in Bogor, Friday (9/12/2022).
Ahmad Yuniarto, Main Director of PGE, said the award given was a form of appreciation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. This is because PGE carries out operational activities with due regard to safety and environmental aspects. In addition, PGE's commitment to geothermal development in Indonesia and to providing significant progress in the energy sector
"This award is one of PGE's achievements, which has proven to always prioritize safety and environmental aspects in geothermal development operations in the country," he said.
According to Ahmad, the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) award is expected to be a motivation for companies to continue to make K3 efforts, also known as health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) efforts, so that it will create workers who are safe, healthy, and productive to support the development of the nation.
In the 2022 Geothermal Engineering and Geothermal Engineering Performance Award Charter, there are four categories of awards. First, the Performance Category for the Implementation of Occupational Safety and Health and Geothermal Engineering for Production Work Areas received the Aditama Charter, which was awarded to PGE in the Lahendong, Kamojang, Ulubelu, and Karaha Areas.
The second is the Geothermal Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health Application Performance Category for Non-Producing Work Areas, which received the main charter given to PGE for the Hululais Project.
The third is the category of performance control of pollution and/or environmental damage for production work areas, obtaining the Aditama Charter, which was awarded to PGE Areas Ulubelu, Kamojang, and Lahendong, and the Main Charter, which was won by PGE Area Karaha and Lumut Balai.
The fourth is the performance category for pollution control and/or environmental damage in non-producing work areas, obtaining the main charter given to PGE for the Hululais Project.
According to Ahmad Yuniarto, in running the business, PGE continues to be committed to geothermal development and ensures that the implementation of environment, social, and governance (ESG) becomes an integrated part of PGE's geothermal business. The application of these ESG aspects is an effort to provide added value as well as PGE support for government programs related to the use of environmentally friendly renewable energy, especially geothermal.
"PGE's commitment to the development of geothermal energy can contribute to achieving the sustainable development targets of goals 7 (clean and affordable energy), 12 (responsible construction and production), 13 (handling climate change), and 15 (terrestrial ecosystems) on the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)," he said.
PGE currently manages 13 geothermal working areas (WKP) totaling +1.8 GW, of which 672 MW is operated and managed directly by PGE and 1,205 MW is managed under the Joint Operation Contract scenario. The geothermal installed capacity in the PGE working area contributes to around 82% of the total installed geothermal capacity in Indonesia, with a potential reduction of CO2 emissions of around 9.7 million metric tons per year.
