January 13, 2021

Highlights

  • The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, which already includes 104 unique towns and villages, was created to tell the whole world about the picturesque towns and villages to be found throughout the length and breadth of Spain.
  • The agreement is part of a commitment made by both institutions to encourage the development of electric vehicles, contribute to the fight against climate change and contribute to the success of the sustainability goals
  • The alliance offers residents and visitors of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain a universal charging infrastructure for their electric vehicles (suitable for all models) which is powered by 100% renewable energy.
  • Albarracín, Alquézar, Anento Briones, Candelario, Grazalema, Morella, Segura de la Sierra, Sepúlveda, Urueña, Valderrobres and Zahara de la Sierra will be the first villages in the Association to have Endesa X chargers.
  • To use the chargers, all you have to do is download the Endesa X charging application - "JuicePass" - and customers will be able to manage their electric vehicle charging using their mobile phones: paying and booking up to 15 minutes in advance , etc.

Endesa X has reached an agreement with the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain to install a series of vehicle charging points. As a result of the agreement, residents and tourists will be able to charge their vehicles when they are in these unique locations of outstanding beauty. Albarracín, Alquézar, Anento Briones, Candelario, Grazalema, Morella, Segura de la Sierra, Sepúlveda, Urueña, Valderrobres and Zahara de la Sierra will be the first villages of the Association to receive Endesa X chargers.

Each charging station will make it possible to charge at least two electric vehicles at the same time with semi-rapid technology (22 kW) or higher, so users can charge their batteries to 80% in between 60 and 90 minutes.  One of these charging stations has already been installed in Briones in La Rioja, and will be going live soon (location).

With this first agreement, Endesa X and the Association are contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping to maintain air quality in these towns, since these vehicles do not emit nitrogen oxides or particles and are so quiet that they cause almost no noise pollution. The scheme also boosts the local economy and the care of the environment.

The agreement was signed by the General Manager of Endesa X, Josep Trabado, and the president of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, Francisco Mestre. According to Josep Trabado, "we are continuing to make great progress with our goal of facilitating EV charging for all Spaniards, democratising electric mobility, being where our customers are and meeting their charging needs, so that this is no longer a barrier to entry. What's more, in the case of locations like the most beautiful villages in Spain, we are helping to give them a more sustainable future, too".

According to Francisco Mestre, president of the Association, "this first agreement supports the current needs of electric mobility in our towns, and we provide services en route to visitors who are already electric car users. Without a doubt, it is an added value for tourism and an important step towards sustainable mobility in rural areas, an ideal destination for travellers who are looking for something genuine, without changing the purity of our air or causing noise pollution in the streets".

How to use the chargers?

To locate and use the chargers, all users have to do is download the Endesa X charging app, "JuicePass". The app allows drivers to arrange to charge their electric vehicles directly from their mobile phones (pay, reserve up to 15 minutes in advance, etc.) and also access monthly charging rates at discounted prices.

The app is available for both iOS and Android and you can register directly with your Facebook or Google account, or by providing an email address.   In addition, when registering, the user will be able to enjoy advantageous economic conditions when charging thanks to the existing charging rates, and it will allow them to create their own account with their preferences and payment methods, which will make subsequent charging quicker. In any case, the registration process is not mandatory and you can always choose to use it without prior registration and pay directly with your credit card.

About the Association

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, which already includes 104 unique towns and villages, was created to tell the whole world about the picturesque towns and villages to be found throughout the length and breadth of Spain. The objective is to promote small towns, preferably countryside villages, with a single quality brand, through promotional actions and cultural events that the association organises in Spain and abroad.  This network includes some stunning locations brimming with history, culture and character, traditional towns that travellers can explore on foot and mingle with the locals.

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain brand is a national and international benchmark of prestige and quality. The initiative is based on the French Les Plus Beaux Villages de France model and the Spanish version is part of and the current chair of the Federation of the Most Beautiful Villages in the World, which has networks in France, Italy, Belgium and Japan. Other countries such as Russia, Germany, Liechtenstein, Lebanon, Switzerland and Portugal are also creating new associations. The Association was created in Spain in 2011 and was launched two years later with a network of 14 villages. Since then, the list has grown to 104 towns and villages.
