Nearly $64 million is being invested in 72 projects under the 2026-27 Climate Change Fund.
This includes more than $6 million for three projects to strengthen the province's electric vehicle charging network and expand charging infrastructure.
"The Climate Change Fund is an important tool to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect and preserve the environment and transition to a greener economy," said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage. "Adding more electric vehicle chargers to the network is a positive step towards achieving our 2030 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target and our goal of being net zero by 2050."
New Brunswick's eCharge network will expand with 16 new fast chargers (29 total ports), supported by a $5 million investment. The Department of Energy will work with NB Power to install fast-charging infrastructure in underserved areas that the private sector may not see a business case for at this time. There will also be expansion at existing sites that are used more frequently.
"Growing New Brunswick's network of electric vehicle chargers - especially fast-charging ports - is key to reducing range anxiety for electric vehicle drivers," said Energy Minister René Legacy. "NB Power does a great job of managing the network of public chargers, which is essential in cutting down reliance on fossil fuels, and reassuring for those who are considering making the switch to electric."
The government is also investing $955,000 to expand its electric vehicle fleet. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will establish three regional charging hubs in Moncton, Saint John and Miramichi. It will also install single-port charging stations at strategic fleet housing locations to improve readiness and enable the transition.
"New Brunswick remains committed to ensuring the vehicles in its government fleet are both modern and environmentally sustainable," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson. "This additional funding will help us continue this trend, by expanding upon our existing inventory of electric vehicles and increasing the fleet's charging infrastructure across the province."
Visitors to République, Mactaquac and Herring Cove provincial parks will benefit from new charging stations through an investment of $100,000. This addition to existing charging infrastructure in the parks will help reduce reliance on fossil fuels while making provincial parks more accessible to electric vehicle drivers.
"Electric vehicle charging stations help make New Brunswick a more welcoming destination for the growing number of travellers who drive electric vehicles," said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Isabelle Thériault. "By expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure in and around our provincial parks, we are improving the visitor experience, encouraging longer stays, and supporting our vision of sustainable, regenerative tourism while showcasing the natural beauty of our province."
The Climate Change Fund supports projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, advance education and strengthen the province's climate resilience. A list of projects is available online.
The 2024-25 Climate Change Action Plan Progress Report provides an overview of the progress being made to protect the environment. It highlights key achievements, ongoing initiatives and a continued commitment to building a sustainable future across all priority areas.
