BC Hydro and TransLink are helping to create a more sustainable and convenient transportation network with the launch of two electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging hubs at TransLink Park and Ride locations in Port Coquitlam and South Surrey, providing space for up to 38 EVs to charge at the same time.
"These new electric vehicle charge hubs in Port Coquitlam and South Surrey continue our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options, especially for daily commuters, more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians," said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. "Electric vehicle charging stations at TransLink Park and Ride locations play a crucial role in supporting the transition to cleaner transportation as they provide a convenient and accessible opportunity for EV drivers to charge their vehicles while they are at work or using public transit."
Each hub features a mix of Level 2 and 180-kilowatt chargers, catering to different charging needs. Level 2 chargers are ideal for EV drivers who use public transit and want to charge their vehicle for several hours while they commute. The 180-kilowatt chargers, on the other hand, offer a faster experience for drivers who need a quick charge. These units support power sharing and can provide two vehicles up to 90-kilowatts each. Some of the chargers also come equipped with NACS (North American Charging Standard), ensuring compatibility with a wide range of EV models.

"Transportation accounts for 40 per cent of British Columbia's greenhouse gas emissions and that's why it's critical we support commuters with clean transportation options," said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit. "This partnership between BC Hydro and TransLink is a great example of the work we're doing to provide more EV drivers with access to fast-charging in communities throughout British Columbia."
The adoption of EVs across British Columbia has increased significantly with more than 180,000 EVs on the road in B.C.
"With these new EV charging hubs, it's even easier for people to seamlessly incorporate transit into their daily commutes," says TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. "TransLink and BC Hydro will continue to explore opportunities to expand this partnership, improving the customer experience at other Park and Ride locations."
As BC Hydro continues to build out its fast-charging network, it plans to focus on building more hub sites with multiple chargers along highway corridors and urban communities to provide a faster and more convenient experience for its customers. Charge hubs have already been installed in Surrey, Delta, Colwood and Prince George, and future charge hubs are planned in more communities across the province.
"British Columbians are embracing electric vehicles faster than many jurisdictions in Canada and that's why we are continuing to make investments for growth within our current system and building out our fast-charging network across B.C.," said Chris O'Riley, President and CEO of BC Hydro. "This partnership between BC Hydro and TransLink is all about convenience, allowing EV drivers to charge their vehicles while they commute on public transit or are in need of a faster charge before they continue with their journey."
BC Hydro's provincewide fast-charging network currently includes 486 charging ports at 138 sites in communities throughout B.C. BC Hydro is looking to double the number of charging ports in its network to 800 by spring 2026. The chargers are funded in a partnership with the Province of B.C. and Natural Resources Canada.
