KUB and community partners receive the Super Nova Star of Energy Efficiency Award

October 6, 2022

The Alliance to Save Energy presented Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) and community partners Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), City of Knoxville, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), and the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC) with the Super Nova Star of Energy Efficiency Award yesterday (Oct 4) in a ceremony in Washington, D.C. The Super Nova Star of Energy Efficiency Award recognizes companies, organizations, and individuals who have demonstrated energy efficiency leadership.

This award recognizes KUB and partner agencies' work to create long-term solutions that make utility bills more affordable for low-income families and benefit the environment. Solutions include weatherization programs, workshops, and efficiency resources. Together these programs have raised nearly $25 million in weatherization funding, served more than 2,000 homes, and educated hundreds of community members on energy efficiency since 2015.

Gabriel J. Bolas II, KUB President and CEO, accepted the award. He was joined on stage by Jeffrey Vincent, CAC Director of Housing and Energy Services; Brad Wagner, Manager of TVA EnergyRight Residential; and Bethany Kitch, TVA Senior Program Manager.

"I am proud to accept this award on behalf of KUB and our partners, and I am even more proud to be part of such impactful work in the communities we serve" said Gabriel J. Bolas, II. "We are committed to providing families with root-cause solutions for high energy consumption, including weatherization and energy efficiency education."
