DTEK Renewables invest to create Renewable Energy Laboratory in Kyiv

August 21, 2024

DTEK Renewables has committed to investing in a state-of-the-art Renewable Energy Laboratory at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI). This initiative aims to enhance the technical capabilities of the renowned educational institution and elevate the standard of training for future energy sector specialists in Ukraine.

The collaboration was formalised through a memorandum of cooperation, signed by Oleksandr Selyshchev, CEO of DTEK Renewables, and Anatolii Melnychenko, Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

Oleksandr Selyshchev emphasised the urgency of the project, stating: "Ukraine needs to restore its energy potential after the large-scale russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. And this must be done now to have an opportunity for even more powerful energy reconstruction after our victory. That's why we will help KPI with the technical base so that professors and young specialists can conduct more relevant research and laboratory work, gain useful experience and knowledge to implement innovative solutions in the field of green energy in Ukraine."

The investment will begin this year with DTEK Renewables procuring essential equipment for the solar and wind energy Training and Research Laboratory. The equipment list, carefully curated in collaboration with the Educational and Scientific Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, includes batteries, solar panels, a stand tracker, and a weather station.
Anatoliy Melnychenko, Rector of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, highlighted the significance of this partnership: "Cooperation with DTEK Group is very important for our university because the concept of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute envisages the construction of a "green university" - an educational institution that prepare qualified specialists in the field of renewable energy sources. Renewable energy is extremely important for our country, especially today, when a significant part of our power generation has been destroyed by the aggressor country. Therefore, the training of specialists who will develop innovative approaches to the use of resources for the benefit of Ukraine is now a priority."
DTEK Renewables LLC aims to support the Renewable Energy Laboratory on a long-term basis.
