NV Energy has exceeded Nevada's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requirements for 2025, continuing progress toward a more sustainable and reliable energy future for Nevada customers.
NV Energy achieved 47.5 percent RPS compliance, well above the 34 percent requirement for 2025, reflecting the company's ongoing investment in clean energy resources and long-term planning to meet Nevada's evolving energy needs.
Nevada's RPS requires electric utilities to increase the amount of renewable energy they generate or purchase over time. The standard is set at 34 percent in 2025, rises to 42 percent by 2027, and reaches 50 percent by 2030.
"These results reflect years of planning and a commitment to renewable generation that benefits our customers and the communities we serve," said Janet Wells, Vice President of Integrated Resource Planning.
Current renewable resources
As of August 31, 2025, NV Energy had approximately 3,853 megawatts of renewable resources in operation, including company-owned and contracted generation, all delivering energy to meet customer demand.
NV Energy also has additional renewable projects under development, including large-scale solar and geothermal resources designed to support long-term reliability and emissions reductions. This progress has earned national recognition, including an "A" grade from the Sierra Club for the 2023 and 2024 reporting years, citing NV Energy's advancement of renewable energy and retirement of coal resources in Nevada
Looking ahead
While NV Energy exceeded 2025 requirements, the path to future RPS targets presents new challenges. Ongoing load growth, along with evolving market conditions for renewable development, has introduced uncertainty for future compliance.
"Renewable planning is an ongoing process," Wells added. "When we file the upcoming Integrated Resource Plan, NV Energy will be requesting approval of a proposal that represents the largest addition of renewable energy resources in Nevada history. We will continue to evaluate opportunities to meet Nevada's increasing clean energy standards while maintaining system reliability and affordability for our customers."
The report has been assigned to Docket No. 26-04023 and can be found on the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada website here.
