February 20, 2017

The Managing Director & CEO Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe has hailed JICA's capacity building support to GDC which has been running since 2013. Speaking during a brief meeting with a delegation from JICA recently, the MD pointed to the need for expanding the scope of the cooperation.

"The capacity building program between GDC and JICA is a success; it's now time to scale up our cooperation to other components of support," observed the MD & CEO as he thanked the JICA delegation led by Mr. Hiroto Kamiishi, Director Energy & Mining who was accompanied by Ms. Miyata Chiyoko, Special Advisor, and Evanson Njenga, an Energy Consultant with JICA.
Mr. Kamiishi noted with satisfaction that the technical capacity of the staff who have benefited from this program has increased tremendously. Regarding GDC's request for enhanced collaboration, Mr. Kamiishi noted that JICA would be happy to expand the collaboration and indicated that he will undertake the necessary consultations.

JICA has been running a capacity strengthening project to offer technical support to GDC's staff in various aspects of geothermal development. The objective of the project is to enhance GDC's human resource who contribute to technical risk mitigation in geothermal development. Last year a medium-term review of the project was conducted. Currently the project is in its second phase which comprises majorly of on-the-job training in Menengai.

In addition to training programs, JICA has been supporting the development of a Geothermal Master Plan for GDC. The JICA Mission has made a presentation to the management on the Master Plan results having recently held meetings with the technical staff in Nakuru. The Master plan is being developed by West Japan Engineering Consultants (WestJEC) who are contracted by JICA.
