GREENSMITH ENERGY
Greensmith Energy Selected by Leclanché for Grid-Scale 20 Megawatt Energy Storage System

December 14, 2016

Greensmith Energy, the leader in energy storage software and services, announced that Leclanché has selected Greensmith to provide a turn-key 20MW/10MWh system in Marengo, Illinois just outside of Chicago. As Greensmith's fifth system operating within the PJM market, the site will provide frequency regulation as the main use-case. Leclanché will provide the batteries and work with Greensmith to deliver the project.

PJM ensures grid reliability for more than 61 million people across 13 states. In addition to creating and operating competitive and non-discriminatory electric power markets, PJM is focused on the safety, reliability and security of the electric grid. The evolution of the grid introduces complex issues for utilities and grid operators and energy storage is an integral part of the solution.

"Leclanché is committed to acting as EPC contractor and providing fully integrated energy storage solutions to electricity generation markets and in transmission & distribution markets," said Anil Srivastava, CEO of Leclanché SA. "We are thrilled to partner with technology leaders in the space such as Greensmith Energy to deliver safe and reliable power to the PJM market."

"As grid operators look to new technologies to improve power quality and reliability of the grid, advanced energy storage has proven to be an effective and superior provider of frequency regulation for a number of markets including PJM," said John Jung, President & CEO of Greensmith. "We are pleased to partner with Leclanché on this important initiative as Greensmith strengthens its position in grid-scale energy storage and software along with expansion into C&I and microgrid deployments."

Greensmith's software platform is the most widely-deployed energy storage software solution powering 130 MW/180 MWh globally. Greensmith enables the most-advanced and proven energy storage systems by providing robust yet flexible feature functionality for grid-scale, behind-the-meter and microgrid storage control architecture.

This site will be commissioned by May 2017.
