Description
This position serves as the primary resource in administering safety programs and related initiatives for a large plant workforce in Coastal Generation (primary reporting location in Rincon, GA). It is responsible for compliance with safety programs and implementing initiatives to improve safety performance. Other required activities of this position:

  • Ensures compliance with all Safety & Health Programs and applicable regulations
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies, corporate personnel, management and plant staff
  • Works with disability management and worker's compensation issues
  • Assists in the development, coordination and implementation of the plants safety programs and safety initiatives
  • Supports Behavior Based Safety Programs, Near Miss Program and accident investigations
  • Identifies and conducts safety related training, provides strong support for the safety committees
  • Performs or assists with audits/assessments with strong attention to detail
  • Develops and presents effective safety meetings and compliance training
  • Monitors safety and health goals and provides progress/status reports
  • Assigned to Plant Critical Force Team for Hurricanes (SERP)
  • Promoting safety initiatives such as Safety Excellence, Southern Lifestyle and Wellness initiatives

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred
  • Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional certification preferred

Experience Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations and related safety experience is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and Risk Management Program for Chemical Accidental Release Prevention experience is preferred
  • Five years of power plant or industrial plant experience preferred in a safety role
  • Recognized by peers as a leader in safety
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies desired
  • Strong leadership skills with the desire to work in a team environment
  • Developed and effectively presented safety and compliance related information to plant personnel and others as needed
  • Proficient computer skills in Power Point, Excel and Word and researching safety related information
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Self starter and the ability to motivate others
  • Ability to interpret safety rules and regulations

Other Requirements:

  • Formal certification in safety preferred. Commitment to pursue formal certification in safety required.
  • Must be available for call-outs, some nights and weekend work required and overnight travel. Must possess an unrestricted driver's license.

  • Must perform some physical activities while wearing respirators with filter cartridges or self-contained breathing apparatuses in a power plant environment.
  • Must be able to perform duties wearing personal protective equipment which may include: safety glasses, hard hats, respirator, dust mask, steel toe shoes, gloves and hearing protection.
  • Must be able to work in difficult environments including confined spaces, extreme hot and cold temperatures, indoors and outdoors, around loud noise and locations accessible only via vertical ladders or over uneven spaces, cat walks, climbing high elevations up to 20 feet or working on grated surfaces/platforms above 20 feet.
  • Must be willing to work around high voltages and high steam and water pressures.
