Job Summary

This position is responsible and accountable for the integrity of the fire protection system and all associated equipment for Barry and Barry Combined Cycle locations. These responsibilities include sending required reports to corporate (i.e.: equipment outages, fire reports, etc.), monthly audits to ensure compliance with procedures (i.e.: completion of monthly fire protection equipment checks), ensuring all fire protection equipment is in good working condition, implementing and maintaining a forward-looking maintenance strategy, and ensuring compliance with audits (Annual Insurance Inspection, EH&S Audit, etc.). This position is also responsible for interfacing with local fire departments, and coordinating all requirements for the plant's emergency response team.

Job Requirements

 

  • High school education required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of the O & M and capital budgeting process desired
  • Knowledge of power plant equipment and operations desired
  • Working knowledge of National Fire Protection Association regulations strongly preferred
  • Training certification for emergency response training instructor desired
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with other plant employees to ensure asset protection
  • System Owner experience preferred
  • Experience in power plant or related industrial facility operations, maintenance, and fuels preferred
  • Experience in fire ground operations and tactics is highly desirable
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationship with local fire departments and emergency response agencies
  • Be willing to work outside regular business hours and be on call as needed
  • Must understand the importance of procedure adherence

Job Responsibilities

  • Champion "Target Zero" culture and support housekeeping efforts
  • Provide direction on routine monthly fire protection maintenance, conduct monthly audits of fire protection checklists to ensure processes are being followed; and ensure semi-annual and annual checks on all fire protection equipment, including functional testing of critical fire alarm systems
  • Provide strategic direction of maintenance needs and identify gaps for all fire protection equipment establishing short and long-term goals to ensure integrity of fire protection system
  • Coordinate the Barry Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well as all emergency response requirements to ensure the plant meets all safety, regulatory, and site specific expectations; coordinate Annual Rescue Rodeo
  • System Owner R responsible for monthly budget tracking, monthly projections/variance explanations, and providing information annually for 5-year O&M/Capital budget forecasting
  • Ensure compliance with all Corporate policies as well as plant specific procedures/initiatives; and, coordinate all fire protection related audits to include those performed by fire insurance carriers and internal personnel (EH&S)
  • Provide support and training for plant personnel and Team Leaders in Incipient Fire Brigade and annual CPR/First Aid training including refresher training
  • Ensure required reports (fire reports, equipment outage reports) are completed and forwarded to corporate per guidelines
  • Attend required monthly meetings (LIP Mutual Aid Sub-Committee, LEPC, and LCAP)
  • Support team members in the areas of safety, health, and environmental
  • Coordinate repairs made by plant maintenance personnel and contractors
  • Identify best practices and/or gaps in current policies, procedures and equipment and develop appropriate responses
  • Troubleshoot problems related to Plant Fire Protection Systems.
  • Advise and assist in the formation of evacuation and emergency action plans for the plant
