Design Eng ineers duties include preparation / coordination of designs, calculations, drawings, cost estimates and schedules for plant modifications and retrofits. Work involves field walk downs for constructability and some construction coordination.

System Engineers ensure the reliability of assigned plant systems for the primary side. SE is also responsible for monitoring and trending key parameters of the system; Support complex troubleshooting and Operability Calls. They solve system and component problems, provide direct technical support for operation and maintenance, and plan long term performance improvements.

Condition Based Maintenance Engineers or Specialists are responsible to analyze CBM data during functional equipment tests to establish acceptance during post maintenance activities; Trend and evaluate CBM data and issue condition reports/periodic trending reports that identify equipment degradation and required maintenance; Develop and improve preventive maintenance tasks based on corrective actions and monitoring, Operating Experience (OE), and PM feedback; Develop and improve preventive maintenance tasks based on corrective actions and monitoring, Operating Experience (OE), and PM feedback.

Equipment Reliability Engineers are responsible for coordinating and managing the Plant Health Process, Maintenance Rule, Risk-Informed Initiatives, Department Budget to ensure issues affecting Plant Health are effectively prioritized and resolve. Other responsibilities include: responsible for Equipment Reliability Indicators (ERI), review of Critical Component Failures, maintain Single Point Vulnerability Program (SPV) and LTA Manager.
Engineers at Southern Nuclear may have opportunities to manage special projects. Also, engineers typically take key refueling outage assignments. Future developmental assignments in operations, maintenance, training, or quality assurance often prepare engineers for supervisory and management positions. Engineering assignments typically include on-call duty engineer and emergency plan response requirements.
There are 3 total openings with one each to be filled in the following areas: Vibration, Systems and Design. These positions will be located at Southern Nuclear's Plant Vogtle Units 1&2 in Waynesboro, Georgia near Augusta, Georgia.
